Good grief JohnVris tag! You guys need to calm down a bit. You guys seem to be stuck on the “I think I hate her” part without considering the fact that he’ s still not certain about how he feels about her. Sure, he claims that he thinks he was an idiot for liking her in the first place, yet he keeps getting back to her in conversations.
I know it sounds final, but I firmly believe that this is not the last we’ll see of this ship. Honestly, if Mr. Hussie really wanted to sink this ship, he would have done it a long time ago. He didn’t hesitate to sink John/Jade and Dave/Rose after all ( even confirming it on his old formspring). And just look at Johnkat! It was sunk the moment John shot Karkat down and Karkat immediately abandoned his black crush and John never brought it up again. That ship is even more hopeless, yet the shippers still cling on (though I’m sure a lot of them are still convinced it’ll miraculously happen, screw hints).
I know this is possibly the hardest blow this ship has sustained so far, but think about it: The Act 5 arc serves to show that Vriska is capable of change and that though she is still far from being a totally good person, she has that potential. Just look at how she felt remorse at killing Tavros when previously she nearly killed him (and paralyzed him instead) without batting an eye. Just look at how she chose to do the dangerous thing because she (foolishly) believed it would save her friends, where in the past she wouldn’t have hesitated to sacrifice them for her own personal gain.
Now for Act 6: Vriska, determined to do good from the afterlife, decides that in order to stop Lord English, many innocents would have to be sacrificed. Though it would most likely benefit all of reality in the end, it was very morally objectionable to most around her, John included.
She could have at least tried finding another way to fulfill her end without such waste of lives (I guess ghosts sorta count as alive in this scenario). Sadly, Vriska has a very one- track mind when it comes to things like this. Now the people she cared about have abandoned her. Even John, the one person who never judged her, who always listened to what she said with an open mind, who saw her as more than a monster, fears her now and is no longer sure if he ever cared about her, even starting to feel that he hates her for her actions.
It seems like the ship is sunk for sure now, but you know what I see? I see Act 6 as being the arc for Vriska’s redemption!
Look at how many times this ship has been fired upon! If it was to be sunk, it would have been just like the Johnkat situation: one shot and no mention ever again. Yet John keeps ending up back at Vriska whenever he talks long enough.
I strongly suspect that John still cares very much about Vriska and is just trying to convince himself he doesn’t because his head is telling him that Vriska is a horrible person who is better off staying dead. But it seems his heart says otherwise.
JOHN: honestly, i’m not sure why it even crossed my mind to give it to her?
JOHN: i guess i was just used to the idea that i liked her for some reason.
JOHN: at least i thought i did.
JOHN: it was a stupid idea based on hardly anything. like one day of conversations.
Seems reasonable enough, right?
ROXY: well what can i say john
ROXY: love sux
JOHN: yeah. it does.
But John, you just said you had no idea why you wanted to hold it for her! You spent all that time avoiding the L word and NOW you admit you loved her? Sounds you still don’t really know how you feel.
The dramatic irony here is that we know that Vriska isn’t actually selfish when it comes down to it. Sure, she has a huge ego, but when she’s trying to work for the greater good, she’s doing it sincerely. But that’s not what John sees right now. He doesn’t know how important he is to her. He doesn’t know that what Vriska needs is someone who is not only supportive of her, but also not afraid to tell her something’s not okay before she does it (and eventually regret it).
Vriska pushed John to be the best he could be. But if he knew, John could push Vriska to be the best SHE could be.
The final arc of JohnVris will be Vriska’s redemption. What happens as her redemption will ultimately decide the fate of this ship.
So until then, hang tight fellow JohnVris shippers!
fun fact it was this day last year that vriska (who was actually aranea) showed up again for the first time since her death
